Hifi Vector DL-14 Amp Dyno amplifier Dummy load
The HiFi Vector DL-14 is a Digital tool used to test audio amplifiers by providing selectable Ohm loads.
How does it work? The DL-14 is powered by a 110v power supply that can be plugged in to any wall outlet or extension cord. The DL-14 is connected to the amplifiers speaker output instead of speakers. This allows the amplifier to have a stable impedance for testing. ( 1 ohm, 1.3 ohm, 2 ohm or 4 ohm ) This is beneficial because you do not need speakers to test the amplifier so it doesnt disturb others in your shop and the impedance is stable unlike using a speaker in which movement, heat and box rise causes impedance to rise and fall by 3X or more the speakers rated impedance which makes it almost impossible to get a accurate power rating at a specific impedance.
You use the DL-14 in conjunction with ammeter and voltmeter and you can do your calculations by your readings. Or even better use it with the Basshead Garage watt meter or SMD AMM-1 handheld amp dyno which does all your calculations for you so all you need is the DL-14 and the AMM-1 or Basshead garage watt meter do do full amplifier dyno tests with no other calculations, speakers or other meters needed. (you will a need 12v power source to power the actual amplifier)
The DL-14 handles 8000 watts @ 1 ohm, 6500 watts @ 1.34 ohms, 5000 watts @ 2 ohms and 2500 watts @ 4 ohms.
A must have audio technicians tool to bench test amplifiers or just to find out how much power the amp is really putting out a specified impedance.
